Edges

for unaccompanied cello

While in high school, I became very good friends with a cellist, Victor Huls. Since 2007 when we first met, I have written a great amount of music for him and he has been gracious enough to program many of my works. Unaccompanied, Edges is my newest work for the cello. The piece uses a tonal center on the pitch “F” with a constant battle between minor and major tonality. This is exemplified primarily through A-flats versus A-naturals throughout the composition.

Premiered by Andrew Cavzos, cello on the composer's Master's recital in March 2018 at the University of Houston.

Instrumentation: Cello (or viola)
